In 2017 Puerto Rican singer Luis Fonsi and Daddy Yankee released Despacito and it was the top-streamed track in just 6 months. The song is a blend of reggaeton and pop music has not just brought attention to reggaeton but it also drew interest towards Latin music more generally. Billboard's Top 100 featured two songs that were Spanish mostly, and four others in 2016. The Despacito song was at its peak popularity in 2017, however, 19 predominantly Spanish songs made it onto the Top 100 In 2020, there were 41 of them. Justin Bieber's bilingual remix Despacito was released in the year. After that, well-known musicians began collaborating with reggaeton musicians. Drake collaborated with Bad Bunny on MIA (2018) while Madonna was a part of Maluma for Medellin. The year 2000 saw a number of reggaeton musicians were unhappy with their genre's shift towards the mainstream but a new generation specifically Rauw Alejandro was determined to ensure that reggaeton was evolving. He often used elements of electronic dance music, in addition to other styles.
